US Reports High Covid-19 Cases Among Children Amidst Omicron Concerns

In the last week 24.4% cases represented children affected by covid-19. According to the report released by American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association, the cases are significantly rising for the past few weeks.

The Report stated that the children faced severe illness and were uncommon which emphasized that it needs further study to examine the effect of pandemic or the new Omicron variant on children. The new reports are more concerning for the association due to the new variant. Some medical professionals and scientists fear that the variant may be more dangerous than the previous strains.

Today the US FDA has amended the emergency use of authorization for Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine to administer to 16 and 17 age individuals. The booster does for 17 and 16 age individuals will be given only if they have completed at least six months of primary vaccination with Pfizer’s COVID-19 Vaccine.

In US nearly 4.7 million adolescents aged 16 to 17 age are fully vaccinated including about 2.5 million teenagers who have completed at least six months of the initial vaccination series. The authorization move and the recommendations by FDA come as the US officials are worried about the new Omicron variant that was first found in Africa and later being identifying cases in many countries across the world. There is no advanced data about the new variant on how dangerous or how effective the current vaccines are but the initial data shows that the current vaccinations can protect people and can strengthen their immunity.
