Omicron Variant to Find Everyone says Fauci

As the Omicron variety spreads like wildfire across the United States, nearly everyone will be exposed to the strain, but those who have been vaccinated will fare better, according to the nation’s senior infectious disease specialist. With its amazing, unprecedented level of transmissibility efficiency, Omicron will eventually find almost everyone. Those who had been immunised… and boosted would be exposed.

Some, perhaps a large number, will become infected, but with a few exceptions, will most likely fare well in terms of avoiding hospitalisation and death. At least one of every five eligible Americans (approximately 65 million people) in the United States is unvaccinated against Covid-19. More than 62 percent of the population has received all vaccines. Fauci made the remarks in response to a question about whether the pandemic has progressed to a new stage.

He believes that time will come when the population has enough protection and medications to treat acute Covid-19, and that “we may be on the cusp of that right now.” Dr. Janet Woodcock, interim commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration, warned Tuesday that while most individuals may catch the virus, the priority now should be on ensuring that hospitals and key services are operational.

Woodcock was replying to a query from Senator Mike Braun on whether the US should reconsider its Covid-19 policy. Her judgement of Covid-19 was not new to her. The number of Covid-19 patients admitted to hospitals in the United States reached a new high on Tuesday, putting a pressure on health-care systems and forcing states to use emergency staffing and other steps to cope. The hospitalisation milestone comes amid an uptick in cases caused by the highly contagious Omicron strain.
