Health and Human Services Cautioned Americans with Lockdowns or Travel Restrictions

Whether or when another lockdown or travel restrictions are implemented, Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra cautioned, is entirely up to Americans. That is a question that only those Americans who refuse to accept personal responsibility can answer. However, it is up to us to win this battle. If we don’t work together, we won’t be able to achieve our goals. We’ll either face it or pay the price, I promise.

His remarks occurred during an interview with, in which he discussed the delta variant’s growing popularity as well as vaccine apprehension. Despite the fact that 71 percent of Americans have received a COVID-19 injection, tens of millions of people remain unvaccinated.

Becerra said, “The way you counter anyone who says [you] can’t trust [the vaccine] is to take a look at the actual facts on the ground… Perhaps the most compelling fact to me, the fact that more than 99% of the people today who are dying [are] the people who are unvaccinated. I think the facts speak very loudly that these vaccines are safe, and they are effective.”With the delta variant, COVID-19 case numbers have exploded across the United States, particularly in states where residents are less vaccinated. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, COVID-19 hospitalizations in Florida eclipsed the pandemic’s worst previous surge in late July and show no signs of easing up, setting a new high of 13,600 on Monday. Intensive care was required for over 2,800 of them.

At the height of last year’s summer surge, there were more than 10,170 COVID-19 hospitalizations. Becerra said his biggest concern is the rise in cases intersecting with kids going back to school. They want every child to return to face-to-face learning, and they want every child and teacher to be safe. The last thing they want is for this delta variation to completely take over our community, especially our children.
