With Covid-19 cases on the rise in 49 states and vaccination rates lagging, experts say that stemming the tide will need Americans to take drastic measures to defend their country. According to data from Johns Hopkins University, Covid-19 instances are growing in practically every state, with the average number of new cases up to 10% higher than a week earlier — and 38 states witnessing a 50% rise.
According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, only 48.3 percent of the US population is wholly vaccinated, which many experts attribute to declining vaccination rates. CNN Medical Analyst Dr. Leana Wen told CNN’s Anderson Cooper said, “We’re seeing this because the public misunderstood the CDC guidance for fully vaccinated people as ‘We can now do whatever we want. Even if we are unvaccinated, we can now behave as if we are vaccinated.”
According to a Springfield-Greene County Health Department statement, one local health department has asked the state to pay staffing and a place for a Covid-19 care site to deal with an increase in severe cases. If enough individuals are vaccinated, CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said, there is still hope of avoiding an autumn increase. However, she told ABC’s Good Morning America that cities and states may establish travel restrictions for unvaccinated people if the trend of growing cases continues.
