Chicago Pharmacist Arrested for Selling Covid 19 Vaccine Cards

US authorities arrested a Chicago Pharmacist on Tuesday for selling dozens of Covid 19 official cards on eBay. The justice department said that Tangtang Zhao sold 125 official Centers for Disease Control and Prevention vaccination cards for $10 each.Zhao worked at an unidentified chain of pharmacies and had access to the cards, which are provided to each person who gets a coronavirus vaccination. The vaccination cards are important as more businesses, offices and public events demand proof of vaccination by workers or participants.

Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Polite said that they take seriously, and will vigorously investigate, any criminal offense that contributes to the distrust around vaccines and vaccination status. He charged buyers approximately $10 per card and sold them online leading to an indictment of 12 counts of government property theft.

Special Agent in Charge Emmerson Buie Jr. of the FBI’s Chicago field office said that selling COVID vaccination cards to unvaccinated individuals puts millions of Americans at risk of serious injury or death. To put a small price on the safety of our nation is not only an insult to those who are doing their part in the fight to stop COVID-19 but a federal crime with serious consequences.

The Chicago Department of Public Health announced today that it will re-institute a face mask mandate for all indoor public settings as the average number of new daily cases of COVID-19 in Chicago surpasses 400. The public health order does not include capacity limits at public places, and masking remains optional in outdoor settings, where the risk of transmission is lower.
